Gospels like today honestly freak me out sometimes. I read things like this and my brain immediately goes straight to, “ok but would I actually be faithful enough if things got wild at the end of time” mixed with “also kind of cool though if Jesus returns while I’m alive”
I swear my humanity be humanning. I want my cake and want to eat it too, lol.
Luke 21:5–19 was the Gospel today (for anyone that wants to dig, or can't make sense of my writing) & when Jesus starts talking about people being handed over by parents, siblings, friends… even put to death… yeah..... my first instinct is always a little panic. A little “crap idk if I’m built for that.” LOL.. gah. Like even feeling those thoughts while looking at my Lord up on the cross makes me feel.. so ungrateful
Father’s homily pulled me back tho, as he admitted he's in the same boat as us..... I took notes because my mind runs everywhere and I want to actually sit in what Jesus is saying, when i spend time in prayer later... SOOOOOO
Here’s what stood out:
Justice will be served.
We reap what we sow.
We get what we choose. CHOOOSE, we always have a choice.
God lets us choose the life we want and there are real consequences if we choose a life without Him. This makes me really scared for people I love that don't follow Him, tbh.
The beautiful part is that Heaven is an invitation… and we get to respond to it every single day.
Father talked about how easy it is to get distracted. How our faith gets tangled in things that don’t matter... like worries (temporary), our stress (temporary).... and MORE temporary things. The fact of the matter is, all the noise melts away eventually. "Where the body is, there also the vultures will gather", is a line that stands out to me from Friday.
Jesus wants our eyes on the prize, which is heaven, not tomorrow, not 10 years from now. But right now… in the decisions we’re making today.
Choosing Heaven is a series of choices: strength, faith, perseverance... our "spiritual muscle".
Jesus says by your perseverance you will secure your lives.
Father said we’re invited to persevere in carrying our crosses.
So I’ve been sitting in these questions he shared, today:
Where have I died to myself so Christ could raise me up?
Is the life I’m living right now one I’d want my kids to imitate?
Are my actions actually choosing Heaven? Eeeek, being annoyed of my kids last night when they came to my room for the tenth time and the way I reacted instantly came to mind.
These Gospels can scare me but they also wake me up to a reality that eternity is real and Jesus isn’t trying to frighten us.. He just wants us in eternity with Him.
Okay that's all!! Have a good week you guys!!
